Custom Laser Engraving Jigs and Precision Workholding
One of the biggest advantages of laser engraving is that it places no mechanical force on the component being marked. Because the laser uses light rather than a cutting tool, there is no need to clamp the part as you would with traditional mechanical engraving. In many cases, a flat component can simply be placed beneath the laser and engraved without additional fixing.
However, most industrial components are not flat or uniform. They may have complex shapes, curved surfaces, or require multiple identical parts to be engraved in exactly the same position every time. In these situations, accurate positioning is essential to ensure consistent, repeatable results.
This is where custom laser engraving jigs and fixtures become invaluable.
With our engineering and manufacturing background, we design and produce bespoke locating jigs, fixtures and workholding solutions that accurately position every component for precision laser engraving. Whether a simple location stop is required or a complex fixture for awkward or delicate parts, we create solutions that ensure repeatable, high-quality marking while reducing setup time and operator error.
Our engineering knowledge allows us to understand how components function, identify the best locating points and produce robust jigs that improve both engraving quality and production efficiency.
Over the years we have designed laser engraving fixtures for an extensive range of products, including precision engineering components, medical equipment, aerospace parts, industrial tooling and even delicate items such as quills. Every project presents its own challenges, and we take pride in developing practical engineering solutions that enable accurate, repeatable laser engraving.
Below are just a few examples of the custom jigs and fixtures we have designed and manufactured for our customers.
Laryngoscope Camera Engraving Jig
A medical equipment manufacturer approached us to laser engrave a department identification mark onto a batch of laryngoscope cameras. The cameras had no straight edges or suitable reference surfaces, making it impossible to achieve consistent positioning without a dedicated fixture.
Using our engineering expertise, we designed and manufactured a bespoke locating jig that accurately positioned each camera in exactly the same orientation. This ensured every laser engraving was placed in the correct location, providing precise, repeatable results across the entire batch while protecting the delicate medical equipment.
Our custom laser engraving jigs are designed to solve complex workholding challenges, enabling accurate and reliable marking of even the most awkwardly shaped components.
Brush Engraving Jig
A customer required a batch of brushes to be laser engraved with a promotional logo and text. To ensure every brush was engraved in exactly the same position, we designed and manufactured a simple but effective locating jig.
The custom fixture enabled fast, accurate and repeatable laser engraving, ensuring a professional finish and consistent branding across the entire production run.
Shure Microphone Engraving Jig
For a live event, a customer required a number of Shure microphones to be personalised with laser engraving. To ensure each microphone was engraved in exactly the same position, we designed and manufactured a simple locating jig.
The custom holder provided accurate and repeatable positioning, enabling fast, consistent laser engraving while protecting the microphones from movement during the marking process. The result was a professional finish with every microphone engraved to the same high standard.
Exhaust Pipe Laser Engraving Jig
A customer approached us to add a logo to an exhaust pipe. Due to the curved shape of the component, accurate positioning was essential to ensure the logo was engraved in exactly the correct location on every part.
We designed and manufactured a bespoke locating jig to securely position the exhaust pipe during laser engraving. This simple but effective fixture ensured consistent alignment, repeatable results and a professional finish across the entire batch.
Our ability to design and manufacture custom laser engraving jigs allows us to accurately mark components with challenging shapes that would otherwise be difficult to position reliably.
Quill Pen Laser Engraving Jig
We are often asked to engrave unusual and challenging items, and a quill pen was a unique project that required a different approach. The delicate feather meant that special care was needed to ensure it was fully protected during the laser engraving process.
To achieve accurate and repeatable results, we designed and manufactured a bespoke locating jig that supported the quill above the laser bed while securely positioning the pen section for engraving. This allowed the feather to remain undamaged while ensuring the engraving was placed consistently on every item.
This project demonstrates our ability to develop creative engineering solutions for laser engraving, even when working with fragile, irregular or unusual shaped objects.
Watch Back Laser Engraving Jig
Another precision engraving challenge required a bespoke engineering solution. A customer approached us to engrave serial numbers onto watch backs, where accuracy and consistency were essential.
Due to the small size and circular shape of the watch backs, each component needed to be held securely in a specific orientation to ensure the serial numbers were engraved in exactly the correct position every time.
To achieve this, we designed and manufactured a dedicated locating jig. The fixture provided repeatable positioning while protecting the watch components during the laser engraving process, ensuring a consistent, professional finish across the entire batch.
This project demonstrates our ability to design custom laser engraving fixtures for precision components where accuracy, repeatability and attention to detail are critical.
Rotary Laser Engraving Fixtures
Some components require engraving around a curved surface, such as cylinders, tubes, shafts or precision machined diameters. To achieve accurate engraving around the full circumference, a rotary attachment is used to rotate the component during the laser marking process.
By designing and manufacturing dedicated fixtures that mount securely into our rotary attachment, we can accurately position and support round components while engraving continuous logos, text, serial numbers or identification marks around their diameter.
Our engineering approach ensures that even complex cylindrical parts can be held securely and engraved with precision, providing consistent and repeatable results across production batches.
